Our truck at the Santa Ines Clinic in Nicaragua has broken down and needs urgent repairs.

Back in 2002 we purchased a much-needed 4 wheel drive Hilux vehicle for a medical clinic and hospital located on the banks of the Coco River in Nicaragua. Our Medical Director, Dr. Maria Compte had worked there, deep in the jungle, for 4 years helping establish a functioning medical clinic.  Dooley Intermed’s founder, Dr. Chaney traveled to Managua fourteen years ago to purchase the truck, followed by an “Indiana Jones” journey, crossing rivers and traversing terrible roadways to personally deliver it to the Santa Ines Clinic in Waspam, Nicaragua. 

Dooley Intermed has been working along the Coco River since the 1990’s, providing the first full-time physician and nurse in the area.  The Santa Ines clinic has expanded over the years, with several doctors and a new maternal care building. Small villages along the Coco River are reached with dugout canoes. Additional outreach clinics are held in 13 outlying communities, reachable only with a 4 wheel drive vehicle traveling via trails and rough roads through the jungle.

This vehicle has performed a myriad of vital functions, including mobile clinics, transporting health care workers and supplies, even serving as an ambulance over the past 14 years. It has been stuck in the mud many times, and was almost swept way in the Coco River another time. This truck has transported pregnant mothers, sick babies, vital supplies, and seriously injured villagers seeking urgently needed care.  After many years of service on terrible unimproved roads and trails this legendary vehicle has broken down and now requires significant maintenance & repair.  The cost of needed repairs and service are extensive at $6,500. While much preferred, the cost of a new replacement vehicle is $35,000.
