Maternal Waiting Home

The Maternal Waiting Home, which is located next to the Santa Ines Clinic, continues offering help and support for pregnant and postpartum women from the surrounding communities in a safe and comfortable environment. Some of the patients required ultrasound or electrocardiogram exams and were then referred for clinical management and follow-up treatment.

In the first three months of this year, 85 women gave birth and most had healthy babies, however, 17 of these women had to be referred and transferred to the Puerto Cabezas Hospital for a variety of complications with labor and delivery including giving birth by cesarean sections.

The demand for these services is urgently needed but with your generous support, Dooley Intermed will continue to provide a lifeline to all the area residents by truck to the inland communities or by dugout canoe along the Coco River to theses remote areas to help the proud but impoverished Miskito and Mayagna people who desperately seek medical help and support.
