Description:
Loss of vision has devastating consequences everywhere, but particularly
in a third-world subsistence environment. It is estimated that as much as 80%
of all visual impairment in Nepal is avoidable or treatable. Three young New
York City based ophthalmologists decided to do something about it, and embarked
on an ambitious expedition to provide first-class eye care, including cataract
surgeries, in remote Himalayan villages. Each of the doctors will briefly
relate their experiences of their first outreach expedition, traveling
literally half-way around the world, to elevations above 9,000’ to hold a
series of free eye camps, accepting and treating all in need. What was their
experience? Did they make a difference? Would they do it again?
